Beat the Heat this Summer

summerThe summer months bring with them no school, family vacations, and frozen treats. But they also bring rising temperatures and a blazing hot sun. Although the heat makes for ideal pool time, it can also bring heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and even heat strokes.

The heat can be uncomfortable and it can also be dangerous. Either way, there are multiple ways to beat the heat this summer, both inside and outside.
Outside

  1. Wear Appropriate Clothing– An easy way to stay cool in the summer is to ditch synthetic fabrics for cotton or linen. These fabrics have loosely woven fibers that allow for more airflow to cool off your body. Clothes should also be loose fitting and lightly colored so they don’t trap or draw heat to your body.
  2. Stay Hydrated!– Drinking lots of water is the best way to keep yourself cool during the summer. You can freeze water bottles to take with you that will melt as you go and keep you supplied with cold water throughout the day. You body uses water for cooling itself off both internally and externally, and it’s best to keep yourself well supplied.
  3. Put on a Hat– Protective clothing like hats shield your face from the sun and can help to keep you cool, even with the small amount of shade it provides. A trick to keep you even cooler is to pour water on your hat before putting it on. This will help to keep your head feeling nice and cool.
