How To Make Smart Changes

Whether you are looking to make changes in your personal or your professional/educational life, change can be hard.  People react differently to change, but often it can be difficult because there is a fear of the new thing happening or simply a formed habit to lose.  For others, it can be the adjustment and the follow through with the change, that is challenging.  Change involve decisions and then taking action.  Some change can be small and other change can be large.  So why do we then want to change?  Change is a part of life.  Sometimes changes occur beyond our control.  Change can be started because we want something to improve or be different or learn something new.  But there are things we can do to make change easier.  By having a more positive outlook on change and knowing that it is happening, can help ease the transition.  Change can be good because it can allow us to have new opportunities, learn new skills, expand our creativity, and experience something that we might not have otherwise experienced.  Here are some tips to not only make change easier, but to make smart changes.  Smart changes involve setting smart goals and making smart decisions.  So, if we consider change to be similar to making decisions, we can follow the same steps.
–Identify your new goal(s).
–Break down the change in to small steps and start with adapting to it piece by piece.
–Talk it over with your support system, family, friends, etc.
–Stay positive and focus on your goal of change.
–Have patience with yourself as you are going through the change.  There may be setbacks or need for starting over, but don’t lose sight of your goal.
–Resist going back to the old and focus on the new thing ahead.
