Trick-or-Treat Alternatives

candycorn_halloween09-e1ETYq.jpgAs we enter mid-October, it is now officially the season for pumpkins, hot drinks, corn mazes, apple picking and enjoying the change in weather.  Also, with October comes the holiday, Halloween.  Halloween involves activities of carving pumpkins, wearing costumes, eating sweets and trick-or-treating.  For many, trick-or-treating is a tradition that is enjoyed with children and family.  However, trick-or-treating may not be an option if you have young children or schedule conflicts and for other people it may not be something that is celebrated.  For that reason, here is a list of some alternative activities to trick-or-treating that you can enjoy with your family and/or friends:

  1. Set up a scavenger hunt. This could be done in your backyard, in your house or even around your neighborhood.  Give out hints or clues to help your seekers find candy and/or other treats.
  2. Crafts or baking. Try having a craft night or baking some fall treats instead.  This could include pumpkin decorating and/or baking pumpkin spice deserts or other fun fall goodies.
  3. Movie night. Stay inside and turn on some of your favorite fall or Halloween movies.
  4. Trunk or treat. With friends or neighbors try having your children walk car to car for candy in a parking lot or section of the block.  This is a safe alternative to going door to door.  You can decorate your cars and/or the trunks of your car too.
  5. Host a block party. Get together with your neighbors and have a block party.  This could include all your favorite parts of Halloween in a safe environment.
