Staying Engaged
Whether you are a student or an employee, many people find that staying engaged in their work is challenging. This lack of engagement can be because of disinterest, boredom, lack of motivation, burn out, lack of learning, lack of growth and for many more reasons. In fact, it is reported that close to 70 percent of employees are disengaged at work (https://www.grfcpa.com/resource/a-disturbing-70-percent-of-employees-are-not-engaged-in-their-jobs/). Some signs of someone who is not engaged can be complacency, bad communication, withdrawing from activities, not engaging with others, a decline in work/school performance and more. The good news is that there are things you can do to change your disengagement or help those around stay more engaged as well. Here is a short list of some tips to stay engaged at work and/or school:
- Take a break
- Take on a new task and try learning something new
- Challenge yourself
- Stay thankful for what you have and where you are at
- Practice self-care
- Create a daily routine
- Get enough sleep and eat right
- Look for the things you enjoy about your work/school
It is important to find enjoyment in the work that you are doing, and this can show through your behavior. Some signs that someone is engaged can include good communication, positivity, exceeds goals and expectations, professional and personal development, and helping others for the greater good of the company.
